About Me

Katie (aka "Freddy")

Investigator

About Me:

Day job:

Child Development Specialist

How did you get into the paranormal?

Some of my earliest memories were of strange happenings in a house I lived in near Independence Kansas. When I was a little older, my family moved to Utah, where I found my fascination with bigfoot, ghosts, and anything spooky. As a teenager, I had more than one run-in with the paranormal, and started to draw connections between my experiences. In 2009, while I was in college, I joined my first paranormal team, Wisconsin Paranormal Investigators, where I met Bryan and eventually helped to establish U.S. Paranormal Research.

What special interests or talents do you bring to the team?

I have a background in psychology, mental illness and human development. I have also been researching the paranormal for over two decades.

What is your dream investigation?

I have always wanted to investigate Trans Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston West Virginia. I'd also love to go to New Orleans and visit Myrtles Plantation, or Eastern State Penitentiary in Pennsylvania.

What is your favorite investigation?

Waverly Hills Sanatorium takes the cake for me. I have never had so many strange experiences in one night. It is a must-see for any paranormal enthusiast. I also really love Ohio State Reformatory, and have had multiple personal experiences there as well.

Media recommendations?

I am a huge podcast nerd, and highly recommend:

"The Paranormal Podcast" with Jim Harold

"Belief Hole"

"What's Up Weirdo?" with John E.L. Tenney & Jessica Knapik

"The Spiritual Rabbit Hole"

"Sasquatch Chronicles"

For books, I really like:

"Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife" by Mary Roach

"Psychic Witch" by Mat Auryn

"The Empathic Ghost Hunter" by Bety Comerford & Steve Wilson

"Out of the Shadows" by Bill Topalovic (I edited this one)

"The Wisconsin Guide to Haunted Places" by Chad Lewis

"The Illinois Road Guide to Haunted Locations" by Chad Lewis

What made you choose USPR over other groups out there?

I love the fact that USPR is passionate about what they do and conduct investigations with the skeptic in mind while still having a good time. Although we take this job seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously and always have a good laugh while we're doing what we love. Plus our group trips are the best. ;)

Fun Fact:

I am married, have two kids (ages 8 and 10), and I play the guitar (poorly). I also like to craft and make T-shirts.
